Inauguration of Paddy Processing Unit 2022
RGCB, Thiruvananthapuram has made an attempt to protect the rich genetic wealth of traditional paddy varieties in Wayanad District, with the grant-in-support from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under the program Science Heritage Research Initiative (SHRI) program. The project team has supported the tribal communities to cultivate the traditional paddy varieties and established around 7 hectares of field gene bank with 19 traditional varieties.
Harithasree ST Kootayima is one of the Self Help Groups fully engaged in the conservation of traditional paddy varieties. RGCB supported the Self Help Group, Harithasree ST Kootayima by providing them with traditional paddy seeds, a workshed as a common facility center, and paddy processing machines with rubber-bushed hullers.
The official inauguration of the facility was done by Prof. Chandrabhas Narayana, Director, RGCB on 8th April 2022 at Peechamkode. Shri Rameshan, Member, Vellamunda Grama Panchayath, Shri Balakrishnan, and Shri Praseethkumar, Paddy farmers participated in the event.
